David declares that the Lord would deliver Goliath into his hands, and that he would cut off Goliath’s head. Goliath was concerned with enhancing his own reputation, David is concerned with the name of the Lord being glorified. David wants the people to know that it is the Lord, not spears and swords, that determines the outcome of battles.
17:48-51
The Philistine continued to approach, but David ran quickly, took a stone out of his bag and slung it towards the Philistine. It struck Goliath on the forehead and he fell down. This killed the Philistine. David then took Goliath’s own sword and chopped his head off. The rest of the Philistines were now filled with fear and ran.
