Christ did all this in order to present us to Himself in splendour, and without spot or blemish. Christ wants to see the church glorified. Husbands should want to see their wives glorified. So we are to both be free of spot or blemish, but it is not just the taking away of all impurity, we are also endowed with splendour.
5:28-30
The world focuses on self. Christ teaches us to focus on God and on each other. So we are to love our wives as our own bodies. We are to consider their well-being and development as important as our own. “He who loves his wife loves himself”. This mutual love and care is actually to the benefit of all. When we give we benefit. Christ nourishes and cherishes the church, so husbands are to nourish and cherish their wives. “Because we are members of the one body”. This applies to the church and at all sorts of levels, including that of the family, and the husband and wife in particular. There are many forces that are forever trying to cause divisions, these forces come through individuals, and through ideas in society.
