5:6-9
So Solomon gives orders to Hiram to cut down cedars for him. He suggests his men work with Hiram’s and to pay the wages for Hiram’s men. Sometimes the wording seems rather direct, but that can be very helpful. Hiram was greatly pleased by Solomon’s response. He also commented on the fact that Solomon was wise. Hiram also adds some requirements of his own. Solomon’s royal household was being provided for, now he is required to provide food for Hiram’s royal household.
5:10-12
So Hiram kept Solomon supplied with all the timber that he wanted. In return Solomon supplied Hiram with wheat and olive oil. The quantities are quite vast. We are then told that “the Lord gave Solomon wisdom”. There are already several examples of God giving Solomon wisdom, it was not a one-off event. In the same way in the early chapters of Acts, the apostles are filled with the Spirit on several occasions. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon. We should note that in the prophets there are a number of occasions when there is judgement against Tyre.
