4:26-28
4:26 gives a picture of the scale of the royal estate, with an enormous number of horses. This was in direct contravention of Detu 17:16. Each regional governor had to provide ample supplies for the king in their allotted month. They also had to bring food for the horses, as well as the king.
4:29-34
“God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight”. He was the wisest man around, yet we know he did some very foolish things and ultimately ended in failure. His wisdom was greater than that of Egypt, and several specific individuals are mentioned. Presumably these individuals were renowned for their wisdom. Solomon spoke many proverbs, and is held to be largely responsible for the books of Proverbs and Eclesiastes. He also wrote songs, and was an expert in biology, speaking about plants, trees, animals, and fish. His renown spread throughout the region.
