51:13,14
When we live in the fear of man we have completely forgotten who God is, and it is something that we so easily do.The Lord “stretched out the heavens” and “laid the foundations of the earth”. There is no comparison between the Lord and any human power. Yet we can so easily live in fear of the “wrath of the oppressor”. God will release the prisoners and provide for them. The oppressor is bent on destruction, but God is bent on salvation. When we look at our own lives and circumstances we should remember that. Our God is God who delights to save.
51:15,16
We fear what men may have determined to do. But they are just men, they do not control creation, they will all die out, they are not in total control. We should hope and trust in the Lord. He is the one who has all power and authority. “I have put my words in your mouth”. This seems very much like something that should belong to the Servant, and the servant in the form of Jesus. Yet it is here in a passage that is very much speaking to the people of Israel. And here it is the servant as Israel, which includes you and me if we believe in Jesus. He has put His words in our mouth, if only we will utter them, and we are covered by the shadow of His hand. We need a complete transformation in our way of thinking, a renewal of our minds. It is also why the church is so stupid when it decides to go with the wisdom of the world rather than the word of God. The Lord is the creator of heaven and earth, and He has said, “you are my people”.
