9:6
We now get to sowing and reaping, and in parts of the church this is presented as meaning that the more we give the more we will get in a financial sense. This is not the meaning. That is not to say that God does not bless, nor that He does not have an impact on our finances, He does! But Paul’s concern is the growth of the kingdom and the spread of the gospel. If we want to be fruitful servants we need to give generously, not just in terms of money, but money is very important.
9:7
We should give freely, not under compulsion. There are also implications here if we making an appeal for money. As I have said earlier, we should not be shy of talking about money, but nor should we seek to manipulate people into giving. we should trust the matter to God. At the same time if we take this verse as an excuse not to give much then there is something wrong with our hearts. God loves a cheerful giver, this means we should seek to become generous and cheerful givers.
