Mark 11:1-6 - The Lord needs it

11:1,2
We are now entering the critical phase of Jesus ministry. Obviously the trial, the cross and the resurrection are the crucial events, but Jesus also gives vital teaching as well. Indeed, in this part Mark focuses more on the teaching itself than in the earlier part of the gospel.
Jesus sent two of the disciples on ahead, telling them exactly what they will find there: a colt that has never been ridden before. They were to untie the colt and bring it back with them. The events of Easter week were all prepared in advance, in fact they had been prepared since eternity.

11:3-6

“If anyone asks you”. The events had been prepared beforehand, one might even say predestined. However, at the same time we see that not every detail was necessarily “preordained”. Someone might have asked them what they were doing with the colt, or they might not. Or, at least, they could treat it as a mere possibility. As it turns out, they were asked, and they gave the answer that Jesus had told them to give.
