10:49,50
The crowd tried to stop Bartimaeus, Jesus welcomed him! The crowd suddenly changed their tune! They now told the man to cheer up, though possibly it was said in a somewhat mocking manner. The man through his cloak aside, jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. There was no hesitation in going to Jesus. The cloak was used to collect money as he begged and was, up to now, the only means of income that the man had.
10:51,52
Jesus asked the man what he wanted Jesus to do for him. Jesus, of course, knew what the man wanted. He wasn’t asking for information, but in order to draw out the man’s faith. Bartimaeus addresses Jesus as “rabbi”. Jesus was much more than a rabbi, but there is no quibble with this. When someone comes to Jesus in faith it is not necessary to get all the theological details correct! (This does not mean theology doesn’t matter.) “I want to see!” The man knew exactly what he wanted. Jesus told the man to go announcing that his faith had healed him. The man received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. Notice the emphasis that Jesus puts on the man’s faith, and attributes the healing to his faith. Now Jesus does not do this on all occasions, but often He does. Jesus delights when we show faith in Him.
