26:9
We are to long for the Lord in the night. There is a deep desire in our soul to be with the Lord, to know His presence with us. In the morning our spirit longs for Him. We want to be guided by Him, to walk in step with His Spirit. People spend an awful lot of time and energy trying to avoid the judgements of God. I think it was Aldous Huxley was honest in saying that he was an atheist because he didn’t want the moral constraints on his sexual behaviour. One of the most oft quoted verse is “do not judge” (almost always taken completely out of context). People want to be free of the Lord’s judgements. But they cannot be escaped forever, and when His judgement does come we will learn what true righteousness is. We would be far better off if we longed for His judgements, rather than trying to avoid them.
26:10
And another attack on the Lord is that if only He was more merciful, but the truth is that an incredible amount of grace is shown to the wicked, but they do not learn from it. On the last day it will be clear to all that every single judgement of God is absolutely right in every respect. If only we had the right social conditions people will behave properly. But they won’t! “Even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil.” Perhaps this is part of the purpose of the millenium. Christ will reign on earth for a thousand years, it will be a perfect reign. But at the end of the thousand years Satan will still be able to deceive the wicked (Rev 20:1-10).
