Isaiah 26:1,2 - We have a strong city

26:1
This follows on from the fall of Moab. When we see our “enemies” seeming to be so strong we feel threatened and oppressed. However, if we trust in God there will come a time when our enemies are defeated. In that day we will realise that we do have a strong city, one that is made strong by God’s salvation. He is the source of our strength. In his epistles Paul encourages us to be “strong in the Lord”.

26:2

The rejoicing in the Lord and in our security is not the end of the matter, we open the gates of the city that the righteous may enter in. Humanly speaking when we feel secure the usual response is to protect ourselves, to keep others out in order to preserve our security. In God’s kingdom things are different. When we have God’s security we open the doors so that others may come into the city of faith.
