Isaiah 23:6-12 - The Lord Almighty planned it

23:6-9
The devastation would be of such an extent that the people would be best to flee to Tarshish. This is the people who were so proud of their city, so proud of their trading prowess. And this was no idle boast, for the city was renowned around the whole region. So how could such an able nation fall? “The Lord Almighty planned it”. All who are proud will be brought low, they will all be humbled. Man thinks he can manage without God, but this is complete delusion. We cannot live without the Lord.

23:10-12

They had relied on their maritime trade, importing and exporting, but now they would have to till the land in order to get food, for their harbour would be destroyed. One can imagine a similar thing happening today. In the global economy most of the “menial” tasks are farmed out to other nations. But if the whole global economy collapsed we would have to drastically change the way we live. We act and live as if there is no God, but there is a God and we do need to pay attention to Him.
