26:7
“The path of the righteous is level” and the Upright One makes the path of the righteous smooth. When we deviate from God’s ways life becomes incredibly complicated. See what the effects of telling one lie are. Look at how family life gets painfully complicated when marriage breakdown occurs. See how trans-ideology makes things hideously complex. Turning from God’s ways leads to compromise after compromise. Yet following God’s ways can see fearful at times, can seem to be very dangerous. But it says here that the Lord will make our paths smooth. This does not necessarily mean easy (Jesus had to go to the cross), but the Lord actively intervenes in our path if we follow His ways.
26:8
So the cry of the righteous is that we walk in His ways and we wait for God. His name and renown are the desires of our hearts. So we see several elements here. Firs, we choose to walk in His ways, we chose the way of the Lord. And we wait for God. This waiting is not a passive thing. It means that instead of trying to make things work by our own efforts, trying to force or manufacture the issue, we depend upon God to act. An essential aspect of the Christian life is knowing that we serve a God who acts. We are not just obeying a set of rules and hoping we get a favourable verdict at the end of the day. God acts on a day to day basis. Finally, the name of the Lord and His renown are our hearts desire. We are God centred, not self-centred.
