22:44
The Lord has delivered David “from the attacks of the peoples”. But that was not all that God did, He did not just defend David, He “preserved [him] as head of nations”. “Peoples” here is referring to nations, though David also had problems with his own people, as the Absalom situation demonstrated. Moreover, “people I did not know now serve me”, see Is 55:5. This is fulfilled supremely in Christ. Many peoples attack Christ, but their efforts will come to naught.
22:45,46
The end result is that foreigners will cower before Christ. Those who reject Christ will end up cowering before Him. Then they will obey Him. We should remember that Jesus has been given all power and authority (Matt 22:18), and the end result is that “every knee will bow and every tongue confess” (Phil 2:10,11). They will lose heart in their attempts to oppose Christ and will abandon their strongholds (2 Cor 10:4).
