Pharaoh was greatly troubled by his dreams. One might think that he could have had a reasonable idea of what they meant, but he wants to be sure and calls the magicians of Egypt along with other wise men. He told them his dreams and asked them to interpret them. It transpires that the wise men were not so wise after all, for they could not interpret the dreams. One does think that surely they could have made an educated guess. Maybe they just didn’t want to give Pharaoh bad news!
41:9-17
At this point the cupbearer’s memory suddenly recovers and he remembers that he was supposed to tell Pharaoh about Joseph. So at this point he tells Pharaoh about Joseph and his ability to interpret dreams accurately. Pharaoh then calls for Joseph, explaining that he is doing this because he has heard of his dream interpreting abilities. Joseph immediately makes it clear that it is God who will give the answer.
