Genesis 41:50-57 - All the earth came to Egypt to Jospeh

41:50-52

Storing grain wasn’t all that Joseph did, he also had two sons. The first was called Manasseh, which means “forget”, for Joseph had been able to forget his previous hardships. The second was called Ephraim, which means “twice fruitful”. It is worth noting that neither of these two sons, or the tribes that came from them, actually did very well, being associated with various sorts of rebellion against God.

41:53-55

The seven years of plenty, of course, came to an end, and seven years of famine began. Everything happening in line with Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dreams. Egypt wasn’t the only land to be affected, the famine occurred in all the surrounding nations. However, because of Joseph’s foresight, there was sufficient bread in Egypt. However, the famine was having some effect in Egypt and the people demonstrated. This happens in all dictatorships, if there is severe famine then the rulers will find that the people revolt.

41:56,57

In response to the people, Joseph opened up the storehouses and sold grain to the people of Egypt. “All the earth came to Egypt”. The surrounding nations also came to Egypt to buy food, having heard that Egypt had lots of grain. So we see here an example of all peoples being blessed through Abraham (in the form of his descendants). As an aside, we also note that “All the earth” does not literally mean all the earth. It means all the surrounding nations. “All means all” is not always true in its literal sense. “All” needs to be interpreted in its context.
