John 9:38-41 - Lord, I believe

9:38,39

The man responds by saying that he does believe, and then he worshipped Jesus. Jesus then explains the meaning of all that has gone on. Jesus came into the world for judgement, but the judgement does not work in the way that many expect. He has come so that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind. Jesus gives sight to the blind, and the healed man is an example of this. The Pharisees are an example of those who think they see, but actually are blind. The presence of Jesus shows up their true state.

9:40,41

Some of the Pharisees heard what Jesus was saying and were indignant. They were shocked at the idea that they might be blind. If they had actually been blind they would not be guilty. But they had the Scriptures, and they claimed to be able to see. As long as they maintained that they could see their guilt remained. But if, instead, they had admitted their guilt they could have received forgiveness and sight. In order to know Jesus and to receive Him we need to acknowledge our deep need of Him.
