Judges 14:8-11 - He scooped out the honey

14:8,9

Samson got his wish, and some time later went back to marry the woman (who is not named).  On his way he saw the lion’s carcass, and it contained a swarm of bees who had made some honey. So he scooped out the honey and ate it. Later he gave some to his parents, but he told no one where he had got the honey from. The purpose of this incident is to provide the basis for the later riddle, and to emphasise that no one else knew about it.

14:10,11

Samson’s father went down to see the woman, and Samson held a feast. It was traditional to do this, maybe something very roughly akin to a stag do. Thirty men were chosen to go along. It is likely that the Philistines were very suspicious of this Hebrew man Samson. The feast would almost certainly involve alcohol, further violation of the Nazirite conditions.
