11:18-20
Unsurprisingly, Jeremiah was not popular and there were plots being hatched against him. Jesus, of course, experienced similar behaviour. In our age in the West we may experience similar things happening to us if we speak God’s word. Throughout the world there are many Christians who experience daily persecution. However, the Lord is in control and He revealed the plot to Jeremiah. Prior to the Lord’s revelation, Jeremiah had not realised what was happening. The phrase “Led like a lamb to the slaughter” was also used in Is 53:7. The plotters wanted to obliterate Jeremiah and his words from the face of earth. We should remember that Jeremiah continued prophesying for some considerable time, and his words are still read today. The plotters failed!
11:21-23
The Lord tells Jeremiah what was going on and would happen. Jeremiah was receiving death threats, but God tells Jeremiah that He will punish the plotters. Disaster would come upon the people of Anathoth, which is where the plotters came from. If we go against the Lord we bring disaster on our land.
