“The Lord called you a thriving olive tree”. In Genesis 1 we read that God spoke, it came into being, and it was good. Mankind was created good. But since Adam mankind has been in rebellion against God. God called Abraham and created Israel, but Israel too has gone bad. So a mighty storm will come against it, and eventually against mankind as a whole. Some might ask if God has created something good, how can they go bad? God has created us as responsible beings.

God is the creator, He created Israel and has now decreed disaster for Israel. What He is doing here is trying to get them to realise how serious the situation is. They cannot argue their way out of it, nor pretend it won’t happen. Likewise, more widely men think that because they think it is wrong of God to do something, then that makes not an ounce of difference. God is God and we are wise to listen to Him.
