12:1
God has spoken to Jeremiah about his missions, about what God is going to do to Judah and Jerusalem, and why He is going to do this. He has also revealed to Jeremiah that he is the target of a plot. Jeremiah is deeply upset, both on Israel’s behalf, and on a personal level.
There is a complaining about God that is wrong and a sign of a wrong spirit, but there is also a questioning of God that is perfectly normal. Abraham, Moses, David, Habakkuk, and Job are all examples of people who complained to God, as Jeremiah will do here. So what is the difference between complaining about God, and complaining to God? In the latter case the complainants have a fundamental belief that God is right and good, but the circumstances seem to say otherwise, they cannot understand. So what they are really doing is pleading with God to help them understand.
In this verse we see that Jeremiah cannot see how what is going to happen ties in with God’s justice. Why has He allowed the wicked to prosper, why do they seem to live at ease?
