10:14-16
The diatribe continues. “Everyone is senseless and without knowledge”, that statement applies to many so-called experts today. Goldsmiths are shamed by their idols. They would be held in high-esteem because they made these idols, just as certain people are held up as experts or morally superior today. In the end they will be put to shame, shown to have been spouting nonsense.
“He who is the portion of Jacob ...” God is not the same, He is different, He is unique. As it says here, He is the maker of all things. We do well to remember that. God has a far better idea of how things work than we do! He is also the portion of Jacob. Israel was meant to look to God for guidance, and for security. She did neither! We are also meant to look to God.
10:17,18
Since Judah had chosen to ignore God they would be ejected from the land. “I will hurl you out”. It was God who was evicting them from the land. They needed to fear God, as do we. And we need to realise that His actions, usually implemented through people, are the ones that have the greatest effect on our lives. If we are wise we will fear the Lord, not man.
