17:9-11
V9 is possibly referring to the cities abandoned after the Joshua invasion. V10 reads as if it must be referring to Israel. She had stopped trusting in the Lord. Psalm 127 says that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. We see this in v10,11. Israel had abandoned her God. She still made careful preparations, seeking to work diligently, but it would result in no harvest at all. Success in any enterprise depends on two things. It does depend on us trusting in the Lord, seeking to do things according to His ways, and when we do this we will also work hard, we will use our brains to work things out. When we are in right relationship with God we both trust Him and use all our own resources and efforts. But when all we do is use our own brains and resources we will ultimately get nowhere.
