15:5-9
There is talk of the destruction of Moab and her fleeing from the enemy. The towns mentioned in the first four verses were in the northern region. The location of some of the ones mentioned in this section are unknown, but are believed to go in a south western direction. This destruction is brought by the Lord (v9), yet the same Lord in v5 cries out for Moab. How do we reconcile the two seemingly contradictory aspects of the Lord’s attitude and actions towards Moab? The answer, as in all things like this, is sin, in this case Moab’s sin. In the next chapter we will see other things happening, things of a much more merciful hue. So many who talk of a God of love want God to just overlook sin, to ignore it. He can never do this. Yet He loves His people and His creation. So the only answer is the cross, where sin was fully accounted for.
