16:20
Jesus then tells them not to tell anyone that He is the Messiah. This was not to happen until after the cross and resurrection. This verse is a warning against a silly literalistic interpretations. Clearly it has no command value now! Indeed, would not have for the disciples in the near future. After Pentecost the whole mission of the church is to tell the world that Jesus is the Messiah!
16:21
Jesus now begins to teach His disciples about the need for Him to go to the cross, though not much of this seems to have sunk in. It was only after the resurrection that they really started to grasp it. He would have to go to Jerusalem and suffer much at the hands of the elders, chief priests and the teachers of the Law. The disciples would already have become aware that He was not exactly flavour of the month with the religious leaders. Jesus had also told them that the teaching of the religious leaders were wrong (Matt 16:12). This would involve Him being killed, and then raised to life.
