32:21
The escape from Egypt was not a gentle affair, but one involving “signs and wonders, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror”. If we look back at the account we see that this was undoubtedly true. We know about the signs and wonders, but these must have inflicted great terror on the the people of Egypt. We need to remember that God uses power and uses terror.
32:22,23
Jeremiah was in Jerusalem and knew that God had given that land to the Israelites, and it was a land “flowing with milk and honey”. It was a good and pleasant land. The people did take possession of the land, but then the root of the problem came in. “They did not obey you or follow your law”. They did not obey the commandments of the Lord, and so God brought all this disaster on them. There are two key things to note. The first is that this disaster came after many, many years of disobeying the Lord and failing to listen to numerous prophets. The second is that God brought the disaster on them. It was an act of God.
