32:33-35
The people refused to listen to God. We were created to be a people who listened to the Lord. God gave them many chances, but the people refused to listen or accept discipline. Our own society is in much the same position. We are not “the people of God” in the sense that Israel is, but we had many Christian foundations in our culture, but have been dismantling those foundations. But this was not just a matter of rejecting God. It also involved worshipping Molech and other gods and sacrificing their sons and daughters. Likewise, many in the West seem to make an idol out of abortion, considering anyone who opposes it as being opposed to human rights!
32:36,37
Now God reveals the rest of the plan. It was true that He would hand Jerusalem over to Babylon, and all that went with that, but that was not the end of the plan! There would come a time when God restore His people. There would come a time when He would bring them back from the lane where He has banished them in His furious anger. We need to appreciate that the anger and the judgement was real. Today to have a true understanding of salvation we need to have a proper understanding of our sin and God’s judgement upon it.
