Jeremiah 29:22-32 - He has preached rebellion against me

29:22,23

These two false prophets may have had fame and acclaim for a while, but soon they would become a byword, fame would be replaced by infamy. It was not just false words that they preached, but they also committed adultery. False teaching will often be accompanied by other sins, either financial ones or sexual ones, or both. Why is this? It is because any one sin is only the visible fruit of a rebellious heart.

29:24-28

We get more of the God dealing with the false prophets, in this case Shemaiah the Nehelamite. He was seeking to counteract Jeremiah’s message to Babylon, and was urging the authorities to deal with Jeremiah for his “treason”.

29:29-32

The authorities did not respond to Shemaiah’s request. We should note the state of turmoil that would exist in Jerusalem and among the exiles. Zephaniah, the priest read the letter to Jeremiah. The Lord sent word to Jeremiah, and the substance of the word was that Shemaiah had not been sent by God and would be punished for his actions, for he was preaching rebellion.
