28:10,11
There is now a “battle of the prophets”, though not as dramatic as the one that Elijah had with the prophets of baal. Hananiah took the yoke off Jeremiah and broke it, declaring that this had prophetic significance, and that the yoke of Babylon over the nation would be broken. How would we have reacted? Would we have shouted “amen!”, or “hallelujah!”? There are two things to note about using “drama” in prophecy. The first is that it is sometimes used by Godly prophets at God’s command, Ezekiel is a prime example of this. The second is that the use of drama does mean the prophecy is genuine! Here is a prime example of this. We test prophecy by the word of God. Jeremiah does not continue the confrontation, but just walks away. The outcome of events would show who was right, who was actually speaking God’s word.
