Isaiah 57:11-13 - Whom did you dread and fear?

57:11
“Whom have you so feared?” Israel was consumed by the fear of man. Now we need to recognise that, humanly speaking, there were many good grounds for doing this. The armies of the Assyrians and the Babylonians were indeed powerful, they had conquered many lands. But compared to God they were nothing. We need to be aware that things that cause us to fear will appear convincing, but we must let nothing stop us from seeking the Lord.

57:12,13

God will give the nation a hard lesson. Their worship of idols involved religious ritual, but it would be exposed for the waste that it was, for the futile exercise that it was. If we trust in anything other than God it will prove to be a false source of help, events will prove this to be the case. Conversely, whoever takes refuge in the Lord will be proved to have acted wisely. Such a person will inherit the land and will possess His Holy Mountain.
