How can this calling and grace possibly be? The how has now been revealed, made manifest in Christ. He abolished death! In its place He brought life and immortality. Paul knew that he was going to die soon, but he knew that death was not the end. And all this is brought through the gospel. The good news about Jesus is the life bringing message, and that is another reason we must not lose heart.

Paul had been appointed as a preacher and apostle. So he lived his whole life dedicated to this calling. And the calling to Christ involves suffering, there are battles to be fought. Being in prison was not glorifying in any worldly sense, rather it was humiliating. But Paul was not ashamed. Why? Because of his trust in Christ. He knew whom he had believed in.
