Isaiah 57:1-3 - The righteous man perishes and no one takes it to heart

57:1
When righteous and devout men are taken away a society should start to ask questions. It is both a sign that society is going seriously wrong, and that God is judging that society. A sign of God's favour is that He sends good men and women as leaders in the world. The converse is also true. It might seem hard for the righteous man, may even have been that they were killed. What is really happening is that God has spared that person from a coming calamity. At present it is increasingly difficult for Biblical voices to be heard. There may be those in society who rejoice at this, in reality they should tremble with fear.

57:2,3

The enters into peace and rest. Following sinful ways never leads to peace. But even when attacked or rejected, the man who follows Christ will find peace beyond understanding. God then calls the unrighteous to come and listen. He refers to them as "offspring of the adulterer". There are two things to note here. The first is that evil begets evil. Unrighteous people will give birth to unrighteous children. So if you are the child of adultery or the like does that mean you are cursed beyond redemption? Absolutely not. Where sin abounds grace abounds all the more. Grace can overcome all sin. The gospel faces up to the full reality of sin, and the full healing of grace.
