12:10
Delighting in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions and difficulties was not the normal way to go. But his was Paul’s way, for his mission was not founded on any strength or ability of his own, but in Christ’s righteousness and power. Note also that he does this for Christ’s sake, not his own. He is completely sold out to Christ.
12:11
Paul now rebukes the Corinthians. He did not want to do this “boasting” but felt he had no choice. The Corinthians should have been more mature in their assessment, they should have realised that the boasting of the “super-apostles” was not good, and recognised the good qualities of Paul “even though [he] was nothing”.
12:12,13
When Paul was with them he showed them the signs of a true apostle, signs, wonders and miracles. We see these things recorded in Acts. The Corinthians saw them, the super-apostles would have done no such things. This is also a test that could be applied to any modern day “apostles”! Paul then uses sarcasm. The super-apostles accused Paul of mistreating the Corinthians, but the only way he “mistreated” them was in not taking money from them! Something the super-apostles most likely did do!
