Isaiah 55:12,13 - You will go out in joy

55:12,13
So God’s people will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. Remember the situation this is addressed to. A people in captivity, miles from home. Even if they got out of Babylon the journey would be treacherous. We can find ourselves in very bad circumstances, how can we get out, and how can we be led forth in peace? When a people, or an individual, turns back to God everything changes. The prospects, the future, it all changes. So the mountains and the trees will open up before them. When we rebel against God everything is a struggle (see Gen 3:16-19), when we turn back to God and put our trust in Him things start to work again.

So instead of thorns and briers growing, we find good fruit growing. Everything changes. And this will happen for the Lord’s renown. Nor is it a temporary state of affairs, for it is an everlasting sign, one that will endure forever.
