Isaiah 56:1,2 - Keep justice and do righteousness

56:1
We have just had a promise regarding good stuff growing instead of bad. We now see this is to be reflected in the lives of the people. They are to "keep justice and do righteousness". Why are they to do this? Because soon God's righteousness and deliverance will come. If we do not believe that God will bring salvation then we will just act in an "everyman for himself" mode. We will just look after number one, and have no regard for moral standards or other people. If we know that the Lord is coming, who demands righteousness" then we will act differently.  We need to know where our salvation comes from.

56:2

The man who does right is blessed. We need to understand that in the Bible there is no conflict between our being saved by grace and it being far better to do what is right. The "son of man" here is a term referring simply to man. "And who holds the Sabbath, keeping his hand from evil. The Sabbath  was a day that looked forward to God's day of salvation, His day of rest.
