2 Corinthians 13:4-6 - Examine yourselves

13:4
Christ was crucified in weakness, there is no weaker position than being nailed to a cross. But He did not remain weak. Any teaching that focuses only on Christ’s weakness is deeply flawed, as is any teaching that focuses only on Christ’s strength. He died in weakness, but was raised by God’s power, and now has all power and authority in heaven and on earth. Likewise we are weak, but God’s power is made perfect in weakness, and when we walk faithfully with Christ God’s power will work through us.

13:5,6

Paul calls on the Corinthians to “test themselves”, to see if “Christ is in you”. There are two reasons that he might be doing this. One is to get them to ask themselves if they are acting in a godly way or not. If Christ is indeed in them then why are they acting the way they are, and should they not then change their ways? Secondly, if Christ is in them, then why are they taken in by the antics of the false apostles? Paul also then calls on them to test whether he and his co-workers are in Christ, with the presumption being that the answer will be yes.
