Isaiah 9:17 - His hand is still upraised

9:17
This verse should cause us to think very carefully. The Lord will not pity the fatherless and widows! Surely that is unfair? Surely God would not do that? Yes He would, and He did. Why will He do this? “For everyone is ungodly and wicked, every mouth speaks folly”. We sometimes talk a lot of nonsense about the poor. Does God have a special concern for the poor and the oppressed? Yes, of course He does. Does this mean they are more deserving, or are exempted from God expecting moral standards of them? Absolutely not! Our leaders may be leading us astray, but that does not release us from responsibility. If our leaders are leading us in an ungodly direction we should not follow! Some might think that this is unfair to the weak (widows and orphans in this context). Actually, God attributed greater humanity and value to people than many “do-gooders” do. All of us are responsible human beings in all circumstances. Those who focus are labelled as social justice warriors, and those who are into intersectionality should pay close attention. They focus on victimhood, but victimhood does not equate to sainthood! You too could be leading people astray.

Even so, the Lord’s anger is not assuaged.
