10:20
As frequently occurs in Scripture, after the clear and devastating judgement upon Israel’s sin comes the promise. God treats sin with the seriousness that it deserves. This is in stark contrast to the human approach, and sadly one that is often found in the church, is to minimise the problem of sin. The key change noted here is that the remnant will no longer rely on “him who struck them down”, is Assyria. Instead their trust will be wholly in the Lord. We should note that this is God’s plan for all of us, that we truly trust in Him.
10:21-23
So, a remnant will return to the Lord. In Genesis the Lord promises Abraham that he will have descendants more numerous than the stars in the sky or the grains of sand in the desert. Here God tells Israel that only a remnant will return. The destruction that has been decreed will happen. Judah should not imagine that because good things are promised, God will not execute the promised judgement. Today, we make a big mistake if we think the wrath of God is a thing of the past! The promised destruction will surely come.
