Isaiah 10:12-14 - I will punish the king of Assyria

10:12
We now get more insight into how the actions of the Lord and the use of other nations works together. The Lord is punishing Judah and Jerusalem, He is working against them! There can be no arguing with this point. However, that does not mean Assyria had free reign to do what she liked. Assyria will be judged for his pride. Assria thought she was a great nation, gaining victories by her own prowess. All our gifts and abilities come from God. When we use them in the light we can enjoy doing the work that God gives us to do, but when we start thinking they are our gifts and we are achieving things by our own strength we are going down the pride route and will run into trouble.

10:13,14

We now get a description of the pride and arrogance of Assyria. Assyria attributed everything to her own strength and wisdom. She attributed her many victories to her own abilities. She boasted in all her victories. The truth is that when God turns against a nation there is no amount of strength, planning, diplomacy or whatever that will enable her to avoid the judgement that is coming upon her.
