26:52-56
The land they were entering was to be divided in proportion to the size of the tribes. It was also to be divided by lot. Prov 16:33 states that the Lord is in control of lots. Prov 18:18 also states that casting lots helps to ensure that things are seen to be done fairly.
26:57-65
The Levites were not included in the main census, their inheritance was with the Lord, rather than with the people of Israel. The chapter closes with a reminder that none of those over twenty who had been included in the first census were now alive. According to God’s judgement upon them, they had died in the wilderness. We are now close to the time when they will actually go into the land. So close to forty years has passed, and very little has been said about the events in that time.
