“From whom every family in heaven and on earth is named”. God is the creator of all things. He created every single human being on the planet. So God’s salvation is for all peoples. This can be hard to believe at times, for when we see people (including ourselves) we see man corrupted by sin, and our natural reaction may be to write them off, to want to have nothing to do with them. But Christ is the saviour of the world, the whole world. His blood is sufficient to pay for the sins of anyone.

We are now told what Paul is praying for, indeed there is a lot on prayer in Ephesians. “That according to the riches of His glory”. In accordance with the splendour and the effectiveness of God’s salvation. Paul’s prayer is firmly rooted in Christ and what He has done, not on what we can achieve. So Paul asks that the Ephesians may be “strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being”. We often feel weak, overwhelmed by circumstances, but Christ can strengthen us on the inside.
