Paul’s task was to make plain “the administration of this mystery” to everyone. The task was not to obscure, but to make plain. Teaching which involves hiddenness is usually dodgy. God wants everyone to understand. We should also note that God did not just give Paul the task and then tell him to get on with it. Rather, God is involving Paul in the work that He is doing, and the same principle applies to all of us.
3:10
We now see the cosmic nature of the gospel, as we get another mention of the “heavenly realms”. God’s intention is that the “manifold wisdom” of God should be made known to the “rulers and authorities” in the heavenly realms. And this is done through the church. We are not mere recipients of forgiveness, though we are that. God actively involves us in what He is doing. We were created as the pinnacle of creation, made in the image of God. Our sin looked as though it had ruined all of God’s plans, but nothing could be further from the truth. God’s plans for humanity will be fulfilled.
