20:7
Having intervened, God tells Abimelech to return Sarah to Abraham. He is also given a sharp warning if he fails to do so. “For he is a prophet”. “Prophet” is a term used in the Bible in quite a wide way. It is not just someone who speaks God’s word, but also applies to those who declare by acting. People like Abraham, Moses and David were prophets. Elijah and Elisha were action prophets. We remember them for what they did, rather than what they said. Then, of course, we have Isaiah, Jeremiah etc who we remember because they declared the word of God.
20:8-10
God had appeared to Abimelech in a dream. So when he gets up he calls his servants and tells them the situation. He also goes to Abraham. Quite understandable he is somewhat aggrieved by the way Abraham has treated him. So he rebukes Abraham and inquires as to why he acted in such a way.
