“Because of these the wrath of God is coming”. We don’t like talking about the wrath of God. well tough, Rom 1:18 says the wrath of God is being revealed against all ungodliness and wickedness. And the wrath will come in a much greater measure at the end of time, and it is right that it does so. If we think that wrath is incompatible with a God of love then our understanding is sadly deficient.
3:7
“You used to walk in these ways ...” Our godless lives were not good. Paul has mentioned sexual immorality and then general “evil desires and greed”. We might think that Paul is being a bit over the top is saying this, but sexual immorality has effectively become normalised in society as we have progressively abandoned our Christian heritage. One of the effects of gospel on society as a whole was to bring in an element of sexual restraint. Indeed, this was one of its features that made it attractive to people in Roman society. Unrestrained sexual behaviour is not actually beneficial, and people, especially women realise this. It devalues people, the gospel values people and values our bodies.
