3:1
We have been raised with Christ. This is not something we have done, but something that God did for us. He raised us with Christ. However, that does not mean there is nothing for us to do, it does not mean that we have no responsibility. Note also that while there is a chapter division here, and in most Bible’s a section division, what Paul says here follows directly on from what he was saying towards the end of Chapter 2. Paul was talking about the uselessness of human rules and regulations. But it does matter how we live, sin does need to be constrained and put to death. So if rules are not the way, what are we to do? We are to set our minds on Christ, more specifically here, we are to set our minds on things above. Now to our ears this seems “other worldly”, but that is not Paul’s meaning. What Christ has done, what He is doing, and our part in that, are crucial to our lives down here. And Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Going back to previous things Paul has said, there is no need for us to be fearful of any other power or authority.
