3:13
We are to bear with one another and to forgive each other if we have a grievance. Our natural reaction is to either react with resentment and anger, or to sweep things under the carpet, not wanting to cause a fuss. Now, it to a man’s glory to overlook an offence (Prov 19:11), so there is a time to do this. But there are also times when an issue does need to be dealt with. We are to do this in a spirit of forgiveness. The motivation for doing this is that Christ forgave us all our sins.
3:14
Love is the overriding quality that is to characterise our lives. God is love, so if we belong to God love should grow within us as well. And this love is not sentimental mush, but the sort of love demonstrated by God in Christ. This love is concerned for the ultimate well-being of the other, and this helps us to do what is truly helpful for the other person.
