Deuteronomy 9:26-29 - I prayed to the Lord

9:26,27

We are now told what Moses prayed. He reminds God that they are His people, they are His inheritance. Moreover, God had invested in them by bringing them out of Egypt. Then Moses reminds God that He had made promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. So Moses called on God to "disregard your people's stubbornness". Did God need reminding of any of this? Of course not. It seems that God wanted a man to stand in the gap, just as Jesus has stood in the gap for all of us.

9:28,29

Moses then warns God what other nations will think if He destroys Israel. In Eph 3 Paul talks about God demonstrating His wisdom and grace to the powers and authorities through the church. If God destroyed Israel then the nations would say that God was unable to save them. Moses finishes by reminding Him again that they are His inheritance. What can be applied to Israel, can also be applied to all humanity, for we were all created by God.
