A fundamental fact that we need to realise is that God is God. All the heavens and the earth belong to the Lord. There are many things that claim to have power over our lives, and these things can and do exercise influence over us, but ultimately it is the Lord who is in control. There may even be times when we think we are in control. So what difference should this make to our lives? We should, and must, live our lives according to the Lord's ways, regardless of the forces that may be opposing us.

Despite the greatness of the Lord, He chose Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He was devoted to them, "and to their descendants after them". As Ps 8 says, "what is man that you are mindful of him", In one sense we are nothing in the sight of the Lord, yet He has chosen to be devoted to us. We are the sheep of His pasture, He looks after us.
