Romans 6:9,10 - The death He died He died to sin

6:9

The resurrection of Christ was significantly different from the resurrection of Lazarus. Lazarus had died and was brought back to life, but it was exactly the same life as before. Lazarus died of something else later. Christ will never die again. Christ ascended to heaven, never to die again. Death no longer has any dominion over Him. Death was fully defeated.

6:10

The death Christ died was a death to sin. Christ died because He took upon Himself our sins. He died so that sin would no longer have any hold on us. He died, and was raised, never to die again. So Christ lives, and the life He lives He lives to God. Now Jesus lived His whole life to God, but He died because of our sin. He was raised so that He, and us, would live to God. What Paul is doing here is laying the groundwork for how we should live, and countering the silly arguments.
