Leviticus 8:14-36 - Aaron and his sons obeyed the Lord

8:14-29

Three offerings are made, the purification offering, the burnt offering and the ordination offering. These follow the instructions in Exodus 29:10-28. The order can be seen as first of all addressing the need to be purified of sin, then total dedication to God, only then is the priest ready for service. The same order applies to us. All of us need to be purified of our sin, we need to repent and believe. We need to be dedicated to God, only then are we ready for service.

8:30-35

Some of the blood and the anointing oil and sprinkled it on Aaron and his sons. The sacrifice of Jesus and the anointing with the Spirit needs to be applied personally. We need to believe in Christ for ourselves. Aaron and his sons were then to eat part of the sacrifice. This symbolises their acceptance by God and their commitment to the sacrifice. They also had to remain at the tent of meeting for seven days. If they did not obey then they would die if they tried to act as priests. In our service of God we have to do things His way, otherwise are in great danger.

8:36

The section concludes by saying that Aaron and his sons did everything as the Lord had commanded. It is a pity that they did not continue in this vein. To serve the Lord is a very serious matter.
