Leviticus 6:14-30 - This is the offering

6:14-23

This is pretty much a repeat of grain offering instructions. Only the priests were allowed to eat the grain offerings. There is a repeated stress on the offering being made without yeast. The instructions in 6:19-23 relate to a priest being anointed, i.e. being ordained for his work. In this case none of the offering was to be eaten by the priests.

6:24-30

The sin offering is in some ways like the burnt offering, but in this case it was the priest who was to eat it. Indeed it was the priest who offered it who was to eat it. Also, any male members of his family were allowed to eat it. An exception to the eating rule was animals brought in as sacrifices including the blood of the animal. This was not to be eaten by anyone.
